ESL focuses on teaching English as second language to those students from a background other than English. The goals and standards of ESL instruction focus on understanding, speaking, reading and writing English fluently, competently and proficiently in order to succeed academically.
Students who are bilingual take a test in English in order to decide their English language level. Then I start giving services to them by pulling out or pushing in. I use the method of teaching English as a second language and I also help them to understand better the subjects that are taught in their regular classroom. I use material that is compatible to their level, mostly for ELLs. They get homework from me or modified from their classroom material. I can help students from various language backgrounds.
Each year in February they take a state wide test called "Access" in order to assess their progress in the English language.
